The Necessity of an Educated and Active Population

These are the times that demonstrate the character of a generation. The coattail citizen and arm-chair patriot, who owe their good fortunes to the work of others, feel that service to one's country is comprised of advocating policies and practices that are not only inconsistent with the beliefs of the nation's founders, but undermine the purpose, aims, and justification of the Constitution: They corrupt instruments of justice, incite discord, misrepresent the fundamentals of a secure society, undermine the general welfare, and redefine the elements of liberty - not only for today, but for ensuing generations. This is a tragic commentary on the ability of a nation to uphold the vision of its founders and foreshadows an impending, precipitous decay of what remains.
